A new shipping company appears in the market

Another new cruise line plans to enter the industry under the name of Norwegian Cruise Company. It intends to start operations in 2019 with an ultra-luxury boat of 180 guests and 120 crew, specially designed for the firm.   The tourism brand and product will be expedition / luxury, the segment that as we mentioned in Cruise News, is having the highest growth in the world cruise. Project planning began last year, according to Ulf Henrick Wynnsdale, the company's CEO. "The investigations we have seen at market points point towards smaller vessels," the executive told Cruise Industry News. "It will be a more adventurous product, and at the same time, ultra-luxury, a segment that still does not have much capacity."   Initial plans include the construction of up to six ships between 2019 and 2020. Obviously all the journalists asked ourselves if M / Y Caroline (such as the name of his future first boat) was the mysterious ship that will be built in the VARD Shipyard, of which they had not told us the name of the owner (see note). However, Wynnsdale said "No, that is not ours," adding that other shipyards had enough available capacity to build and deliver in 2019 and 2020. The company has already signed a series of letters of intent with various entities. The ships will be ready for polar operation. "We want to have flexibility to go anywhere, and when a ship is being built, the addition of polar class is not as significant in an agreement," said Wynnsdale. "It is too early. In our itineraries will be included the polar regions in which we see that demand is maintained. ” The luxury boats will have 90 suites, ranging from 36 square meters each. Wynnsdale added he saw the scenic eclipse as the closest competitor. The company is based in Oslo and an operation is already being prepared in Miami.
